Computer Problems Solutions

For all the many computer problems, solutions and answers are never too far away. This is not surprising when you think that there are over one billion computers in use all over the world. That's one thousand million, a massive figure, so although there are computer problems, solutions exist for every one too.

Thomas John Watson Sr., the one time president of IBM in America from the 1920s to the 1950s, would be amazed at the figure of one billion computers in use worldwide. It is alleged that he famously said in 1943, "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."

That probably held true for 10 or so years, but when the explosion of personal computers started there was no stopping it. Hot on the heels of the explosion came all the many problems, and they increase every year too.

The ubiquitous PC is known to freeze sometimes. If it happens to you and it's a brand new machine, you will probably freeze as well, thinking the life of your precious computer has just ended. This is common enough and it happens to just about every computer. The good news is that it's usually fairly easy to fix.

Your computer performs hundreds of calculation every second. Sometimes it just gets too much and the machine freezes. All it needs is a reboot usually, though sometimes hitting the escape key can get it back to where it was too. If you had to think of a hundred and one things at once, you'd probably freeze up too.

Hardware drivers can sometimes cause computer problems. Solutions to this problem range from the simple to the not so simple. Check cable connections first. This is always the best things to do first with any external device when a problem arises. The problem could be a corrupted file or program, or it could be a conflict with another program that is running, so check that too.

Always try one fix at a time. If you do several things and it gets worse, you won't know what to undo. Also, if it gets better after doing two or three things, you won't know which of them worked to ease the situation. Whatever is the nature of your particular computer problems, solutions will never be found by panicking. Keep calm and collected and do one thing, check to see if that changed anything, if not, try something else.

With many computer problems, solutions can be gleaned from the error messages that often come up. The message will only be visible until you click OK or Cancel, so write the message down. Do it in old-fashioned pen on paper and check it for mistakes before clicking the error message away. If you don't understand the message, a technician called in to help might.

Viruses and spyware are now, unfortunately, a part of computer life. Check the entire system for any program or file that shouldn't be there. Get the best software to tell you - many of the scanning programs available are free and can do an excellent job. Check the computer registry for errors, and scan every drive that you use. Don't give up on computer problems; solutions are always available.

Slow Computer Problems Tip #1

Check your internet cache. Not only does every single page you look at on the internet get stored into a history folder in the depths of your computer, but every single part of those pages gets saved as a separate file in what is known as the cache folder. Yes, every single tiny graphic gets stored in its own file. That green dot that repeats twelve times as an illustration of bullet points? Twelve separate gif files in your cache. Make sure you clean out the cache often.

Slow Computer Problems Tip #2

Ad ware is the devil. Ad ware can be attached to your computer by any number of sites (though it is most famously used by sites of an "adult" nature). This ad ware keeps track of where you go online like a cookie does, but ad ware is typically a covert program that slows down the computer to make it easier to track where you go. Run a spy ware or ad aware program on a regular basis to keep these programs and files at bay.

Slow Computer Problems Tip #3

Defragment your hard drive regularly. Sometimes parts of your files get corrupted. The more files that are corrupted or "fragmented," the more slowly your computer will run. A defragmentation of your hard drive should be done on a regular basis. It is a long process, so the defragmenting program is best run overnight.
