My Computer Is Too Slow
Within a year, or even a few months of buying a new computer, the number one complaint heard by computer experts is “my computer is too slow.” Of course, there could be any number of reasons for a customer saying “my computer is too slow.” And half of the time they say this, the real problem is something that person can fix him or herself.
One of the reasons you might be yelling “my computer is too slow!” is that your registry is messed up. If you run Microsoft Windows, your registry is basically the main control operations centre for both your main operating system and the various programs and applications that you run. Sometimes your registry can get overloaded or corrupted and this can cause any number of problems, including starting up more slowly, shutting programs down more slowly and freezing.
Do not ever attempt to clean up your registry yourself, unless you are one hundred and fifty percent sure of what you are doing. If you don’t know what you are doing and try to clean up the registry of your operating system yourself, you could kill your whole computer and then you won’t be saying “my computer runs too slow” you’ll be saying “my computer is dead!”
Instead, find a good registry cleaner on the internet. There are many of them out there that are wonderful and absolutely free of charge. Simply download the registry cleaner and run it on a regular basis. You might even want to consider running the registry cleaner every day before you shut down your computer for the night.
Another common problem is that your hard drive might have become fragmented. For some reason and nobody knows why, computer files do not exactly stay put. They tend to find their ways to new places on your hard drive and this causes your hard drive to become “fragmented.” This can slow down your computer quite a bit because the computer has to do a longer search to find the file that you need to use. There isn’t anything you can do to keep your hard drive from becoming fragmented. Instead, what you will need to do is to run a hard disk defragmenter on a regular basis.
Luckily the defragmenter is built right in to your system. When you use it, you will be prompted to clean up your hard drive. Always click yes to this option and then follow the instructions. Clean up all of the files it tells you to because this will speed up the defragmenting process considerably. While you are defragmenting your hard drive, you will want to take care to make sure that the box for “indexing the files” is unchecked. Indexing files is usually one of the reasons for a computer being slow.
Most of us, at one point or another will cry out “my computer is too slow!” but learning how to fix the slowness ourselves will save us time and a boatload of money in the long run.
