Slow PC Startup Slow PC Start Up

Usually a slow pc startup is caused by an overloaded (and
therefore slow) pc start up system. It is incredibly easy to
bog down your start up system and you probably didn't realize
that you were doing it. Don't you worry, though, because here
is how you fix your slow pc startup problem.
The first thing you need to know about the slow pc start up
is that it happens when, during the installation process, you
tell the programs that you are installing that you want them to
run as soon as the computer turns on. Usually this is done by
checking a little box during the installation process-or
leaving the box checked as is usually the case. Most computer
programs automatically check that option for you, so you need
to take care to make sure that you deselect that option or your
slow pc start up will make your brand new laptop look like a
1985 desk top computer from Radio Shack.
Here is how you fix
your slow pc startup:
1. First check to see which programs are running when the
computer turns on. Go to your Start menu and then select the
"start up" option from the "all programs" menu. The list you
see is the list of programs that are queued to start
automatically as your computer is booting up.
2. You will want to delete these programs manually through a
configuration program but first, you will need to back up your
system. Select the "system tools" option from the "accessories"
menu of the "all programs" list and then decide on which of the
displayed criteria you want after clicking on "System
Restore."
3. Run your Msconfig. Select "run" from your "start" menu
and type "msconfig" at the prompt.
4. Go to the Start Up menu in Msconfig. You are going to see
a lot of programs and processes listed here that you won't have
seen in other places on your computer. The only programs you
need to concern yourself with are the programs that you do not
want to start automatically. Leave anything you don't recognize
alone for now and concentrate on what you do know. Uncheck the
boxes for any of the programs that you prefer to start
manually.
5. Restart your computer.
A slow pc startup can spell difficulties to the overall
performance of your computer. The programs that run
automatically are left open and running while your computer is
on, but they are usually running in "stealth" mode so you won't
know they are there. Unfortunately running in "stealth" mode
doesn't prevent them from eating up your computer's
resources.
Slow pc start up is
annoying. After all, you want your computer to be ready to go
at the simple push of a button. Luckily it is usually easy for
you to fix the slow pc start up yourself by simply running the
msconfig and editing your start up menu. Before you know it,
your computer will be running just as quickly as it did when it
was brand new.
Slow Computer Problems Tip #1
Check your internet cache. Not only does every single page
you look at on the internet get stored into a history folder in
the depths of your computer, but every single part of those
pages gets saved as a separate file in what is known as the
cache folder. Yes, every single tiny graphic gets stored in its
own file. That green dot that repeats twelve times as an
illustration of bullet points? Twelve separate gif files in
your cache. Make sure you clean out the cache often.
Slow Computer Problems Tip
#2
Ad ware is the devil. Ad ware can be attached to your
computer by any number of sites (though it is most famously
used by sites of an "adult" nature). This ad ware keeps track
of where you go online like a cookie does, but ad ware is
typically a covert program that slows down the computer to make
it easier to track where you go. Run a spy ware or ad aware
program on a regular basis to keep these programs and files at
bay.
Slow Computer Problems Tip
#3
Defragment your hard drive regularly. Sometimes parts of
your files get corrupted. The more files that are corrupted or
"fragmented," the more slowly your computer will run. A
defragmentation of your hard drive should be done on a regular
basis. It is a long process, so the defragmenting program is
best run overnight.
